Caravan owners should check their insurance cover

Experts are warning Brits, who are well known for their love of caravan holidays, to ensure that they have adequate levels of insurance cover before heading off an holiday in their caravan. Reports indicate that many caravan owners in the UK either forget to get insurance for their caravan or take out inadequate levels of cover, and for those that use their caravans – even occasionally – this can end up costing them a small fortune.

According to one industry expert the level of caravan owners without cover is alarming. He stated: "We were alarmed to see from our research how many people were not taking out insurance. Not only can some of the top of the range caravans set you back well over £20,000 if they are stolen, the damage you can cause to third parties can be enormous."

Research indicates that just over a quarter of caravan owners in the UK have actually taken out adequate levels of cover, which means that many of the two million Brits that will be heading off on caravan holidays over the next couple of months will have either no or not enough insurance cover. In the event of an accident or damage, the financial implications based on the caravan and belongings inside the caravan could be huge for those without insurance cover.

The report goes on to state that one of the reasons that many people do not take out insurance cover is because they do not tend to use the caravan much. However, even if this is the case the caravan will not be protected against theft from the home without cover, not will it be covered for damage or fire on the occasions that it is used.
