Should broadband customer bundle their services?
More and more people in the UK are opting to have broadband installed in their homes, and this is because the cost of broadband, coupled with increased internet speed, now offer great value for money to consumers. However, a large percentage of those that have broadband are opting to bundle their services, taking out broadband, digital television, and telephone, all with one single provider. For many this is the most convenient and manageable way to enjoy these services, but according to some experts it is not necessarily the most cost effective solution.
One industry professional stated that in many cases bundling can lead to receiving poor customer service, and may not even be the cheapest option in some cases. He said: "As ISPs rush to stake a monopoly in people's homes, they are cutting corners on service – as seen with TalkTalk and Orange broadband – or making up for cheap packages with high call charges."
He also added: "People should consider splitting their services between the providers that offer the best in one, or two areas. For example, they could get the high-speed broadband of the future from Be Broadband, with the cheap line rental and call packages of YourCalls."
Consumers are warned to look out for hidden charges that can often accompany bundle packages, and are advised to compare different deals to see whether they could get better service and affordable prices by taking out each service on an individual basis rather than assuming that the bundle package will be the best. However, in some cases the bundle service is the most economical, and therefore consumers should have an open mind when looking for these services rather than being determine to go one way or the other
