Don't wait around for British Gas to cut prices

Despite the recent price cuts on gas and electricity from British Gas, a number of customers are still not seeing the new rates reflected on their bills – until they take action themselves. British Gas has cut its gas and electricity prices twice this year following a reduction on wholesale energy prices. A typical household could see bills going down by a considerable amount over the course of the year, but those paying by direct debit may find that their payments remain unchanged unless they take action.

A number of customers that are paying British Gas by direct debit for gas and electricity usage are still paying the same amount on their direct debits each month, which means that they won't see any change in the amount that they pay until the end of the year, when they might receive a refund for the difference. However, those that want to start seeing savings straight away by reducing their direct debits should contact the energy giant.

One customer paying by direct debit was concerned that he had not seen a reduction on the amount that he was paying each month, and in the end decided to contact British Gas. He was told that the cuts would be applied in due course. However, just days after he made the call a gas man turned up to take a reading, and he then received a letter from British Gas stating that his gas direct debit was being reduced by twenty five pounds a month.

A number of other customers have seen their direct debits reduced only after contacting British Gas to voice their concerns. Those paying by direct debit are advised to contact the energy company as soon as possible in order to try and get their payments reduced.
