Another major energy supplier joins the price war

Following gas and electricity price cuts from three major UK providers, yet another energy provider has now joined the price way by announcing price cuts for its customers on gas and electricity. Scottish and Southern Energy, which has a domestic customer base of around seven and a half million, said that gas prices will be reduced from the beginning of March, and electricity prices will come down from the beginning of April, so customers could start seeing a notable difference in the amount that they are billed for.

Over recent weeks three major gas and electricity suppliers have already announced price cuts in gas and electricity following the fall of wholesale gas prices of fifty percent in the past six months. Last year saw prices of gas and electricity rocket, which many people left struggling to pay their energy bills. British Gas was the first supplier to announce its reductions in gas and electricity prices, and stated that tariffs would be cut by seventeen percent for gas and eleven percent for electricity. After this Npower announced that six million domestic customers could look forward to a drop of sixteen percent on the cost of gas consumption, and around a three percent drop in electricity.

More recently, Powergen announced that there would be a sixteen percent reduction in the cost of gas and a five percent cut in the cost of electricity for customers. And now, Scottish and Southern Energy has announced that gas prices will be reduced by twelve percent from the beginning of March, and electricity will be cut by five percent from the beginning of April.

With the new price tariffs the average customer with Scottish and Southern Energy can expect to save around seventy two pounds a year on their gas bills and around eighteen pounds a year on their electricity.
