Consumers should be far more careful with credit card details
As concern about the security relating to both credit and debit card rises, experts have urged consumers to be far more careful when it comes to providing their credit card details. More and more people are now using credit cards and debit cards in order to make purchases on the phone or via the Internet, but many are too naïve to realize that there are many ways in which someone could hold of the credit or debit card details unless great care is taken.
For instance, when using a credit or debit card to make a purchase or payment on the phone, make sure that you are careful about where you make the call and who is around. If you are in a small private office or room and the phone call is one that you have initiated yourself then you should be fine. However, you should not provide credit or debit card details by phone within earshot of people that you do not know well enough to trust implicitly, nor should you provide details to people that call you up claiming to be from a company and asking you for card details.
When making purchases via the Internet with the use of your credit card or debit card you should ensure that the site that you are using is a secure and encrypted one, and you should never link to a site via an email or provide your card details in response to an email. Additionally, ensure that your details are not stores on the computer if you are using a shared PC, and again be vigilant about who is around whilst you are making your transactions.
A few simple precautions when using credit and debit cards to make phone and online purchases could help to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of card fraud.
