Energy customers can start making savings
This week marks the start of the decreased prices that were announced by the UK's energy giant British Gas earlier this year. From this week onwards, consumers with British Gas will see their electricity prices fall by eleven percent, and their gas prices by seventeen percent. In light of the announcement by British Gas a number of other major UK suppliers have also announced forthcoming price falls, and some, such as Npower and Powergen, have promised to beat prices and online tariffs from British Gas.
A spokesperson from Uswitch.com, Geoff Slaughter, stated: 'If you like being on a standard tariff there are three other providers who will give you a better deal – with two more still to decrease their prices. If you are happy to move to an online tariff then now is a great time to shop around, as all suppliers are offering their best deals online. British Gas is clearly being more generous to its online customers than to the vast majority of customers who are still on its standard tariff. There is gulf between the £953 a standard tariff customer could be paying and the £755 an online customer will pay.'
The Chief Executive of Energyhelpline.com, Paul Green, added: 'British Gas currently offers the cheapest dual fuel tariff on the market, but customers on British Gas standard will not get these rates unless they switch. At the new lower rates that come in today an average customer on British Gas standard for both gas and electricity paying by direct debit could save about £115 per year by switching to British Gas Click Energy 2. Customers should not accept the price falls offered by their supplier. Customers must take action and pro-actively switch tariff to get the best deal on offer from British Gas. People who fail take action will lose out.'
