Delays in bank charge payouts results in sending out bailiffs
With many consumers in the UK attempting to reclaim bank fees and charges that have been deemed as unlawful and unfair, banks are now experiencing a backlog, as the claims continue to pour in. As a result the payouts to many consumers that have won their claim for repayment of unfair and unlawful charges is being delayed, and according to recent reports more and more people are having to return to the small claims court in order to get a bailiff appointed to get the money that they are owed from the bank.
One woman recently stated that she was sure that the bank would not hesitate to send out a bailiff if she owed them money, so she didn't see why she shouldn't do the same to the bank if they owed her money. Another man got back thousand of pounds that he was owed after sending bailiffs round to his local branch. It seems that more and more people are turning to the services of bailiffs in order to get the money that the banks owe them.
Marc Gander from the Consumer Action Group stated: 'Banks just can't cope with the number of people making claims and there's a backlog that's being created. I've heard from my sources within the banks that they are having to redeploy staff to this area, refocus divisions and take more people on. We are hearing about people having to employ bailiffs on an increasing basis, but it all adds to the cost and embarrassment of the banks.'
He added: 'The banks may not be ignoring claims on purpose, there are just so many claims coming in that they cannot cope.' He did, however, state that after a court order had been issued for repayment the consumer should take action if no payment has been made in five days. 'The banks don't wait before they charge consumers. So consumers shouldn't be scared to take action if the bank is slow to pay up.'
