One in four T-mobile customers takes out mobile broadband
June 22, 2008
Officials from T-mobile, the communications giant, have recently released their first quarter figures for this year, and state that around twenty five percent of new customers are taking out mobile broadband, which reflects the popularity of this up and coming technology. The company has already revealed an increase in customer numbers, and officials predict that figures will quadruple by the end of the year.
The popularity of mobile broadband means that for the first time data traffic has exceeded voice. One official from T-mobile stated: “The first quarter of 2008 puts us well on track to meet our aims for the full year. We are seeing strong growth in the uptake of mobile broadband. During 2007, just 4 per cent of new contract customers signed up for mobile broadband but this has now shot up to 25 per cent. The increase in our non-voice revenues is a direct reflection of this positive trend.”
The provider has also launched on a joint venture with 3 in order to use the first integrated cell site to offer customers nationwide high speed 3G broadband. The venture seems to be progressing well according to reports, and T-Mobile stated: “The network consolidation technology will deliver the expected benefits in terms of achieving nationwide 3G coverage and joint savings of £2 billion over the next 10 years. This positions us well to move forward with the large scale consolidation of cell sites, keeping us on schedule to achieve nationwide 3G network coverage by the end of 2009.”
The figures from T-Mobile reflect the popularity of mobile broadband, which has become a more competitive field over recent months, resulting in providers launching various special offers to entice customers.
