Pet insurance cover launched by Post Office
February 19, 2008
Over recent years, with the threat of branch closures looming, the Post Office service has launched a variety of new services and products ranging from car insurance cover to broadband service. The latest service to be launched by the Post Office service is pet insurance policies, which could help many pet owners across the UK enjoy affordable protection and healthcare for their beloved pets.
Many pet owners in the UK decide to take out pet insurance cover in order to ensure that their pets can get emergency treatment, medication, and surgery in the event of accidents, injuries, or sickness. With most policies the pet owner has to pay an excess, which is determined when the policy is taken, and for eligible conditions and procedures the remainder of the cost is covered by the insurance cover, which can make a huge difference for the pet owner, as the cost can otherwise be crippling.
The new pet insurance cover that is being launched by the Post Office will cover cats and dogs for veterinary bills up to the cost of £5000 per condition. The level of excess that will have to be paid by the pet owner is fixed at £75. The cover is available for pets of all ages, and payouts are on claims will continue for up to a year following the initial treatment, which is an additional benefit compares to many other policies.
One official from the Post Office stated: “Dogs and cats are often a huge part of the family with 11% of people saying they would re-mortgage their house to pay for a vet bill.” The policy also covers emergency kennel and cattery costs as well as cover for taking the pet overseas.
