Internet provider awards revealed

February 4, 2008

This year marks the tenth annual ISP Awards, which recognises the achievements of Internet service providers in the UK based on performance following testing by Epitiro. The awards are run by the Internet Service Providers’ Association. There are sixteen categories in the awards altogether, and the actual ceremony is to take place at the Marriott Hotel in London on 14th March, where some of the biggest ISP names will be hoping to scoop the top spots.

In the meantime the nominations for the awards have been released, and as expected includes media giants such as BT, Virgin, and Orange. One of the categories is for best Consumer ISP, and this award was taken by Virgin Media last year. Virgin has been nominated for the award again, along with Tiscali, BT, Orange, and a few others. Virgin has also been nominated for Best Consumer Broadband, along with Waitrose, Seriously Internet, and others.

Another of the awards is for Best Dial Up, and the nominations for this category include Waitrose, Vispa, and Entanet amongst others. Virgin has also been nominated for the Best Portal award, along with rivals such as BT, Orange, and Tiscali. Datanet, Lumison, and PlusNet are all contenders for the Best Business Broadband award.

Claranet, PlusNet, and Eclipse have all been nominated for the Best Business ISP award, and the nominations for Best Business Email included Eclipse, Newnet, and Zen. For Best Consumer Email nominations included Pipex. Newnet, and Vispa. Big names including Orange, Tiscali, BT, and Virgin were nominated for the Best Portal award. With competitions amongst all of the service providers still fierce it is unlikely that any of the media giants will become over-confident about a win.
