Students can now enjoy a more flexible form of travel insurance that has been launched by American Express, which caters for students that plan to travel during their gap year. The new insurance from American Express allows students travelling in their gap year to return to the UK for up to fourteen days, which means that they won’t have to miss out on important events and family occasions.

With this new insurance cover students can also opt to extend their cover by up to two year, which is ideal for those wishing to take a longer trip. This will enable many gap year travellers to take advantage of new regulations when it comes to working in Australia, where UK nationals can work for up to two years due to changes in the visa regulations.

Officials from American Express state that this type of cover is likely to prove popular, and gap year travel insurance cover has been one of the company’s fastest growing services. At present students travelling on their gap year can only break their trip in accordance with their gap insurance cover if there is an emergency. Many students decide to travel in their gap year, and it is crucial to take out travel insurance in order to benefit from protection whilst away.

The American Express gap year cover offers a range of benefits to policyholders, and this includes legal cover, accident cover, cover against cancellation, cover against loss, cover against missed flights, and more. Students that take out the cover should ensure that they read the full terms and conditions of cover, as with any type of insurance cover.
