Nationwide Building Society beats the banks in service level poll
January 28, 2008
Despite the claims of offering the best service levels and reliability from the UK’s largest banks, they have all been beaten in a recent poll by the Nationwide Building Society. The poll was carried out by moneysupermarket.com, and revealed that Nationwide was voted the most trusted bank or building society by consumers, who were particularly please with the building society’s service levels and reliability.
The Nationwide was voted most trusted building society or bank by 18.7% of voters. The NatWest came in at second place, with 13.3% of the votes. Third was Halifax, with 11% of the vote. 10.2% of voters placed their trust in Lloyds TSB, which came in at fourth position. And in fifth place was HSBC, which took 8.9% of the vote. One official from moneysupermarket.com stated that it was a surprise to see all of the major banks being topped by a building society, given that they are always claiming to be the most reliable and trusted.
According to officials involved with the poll the Nationwide really outshone the other banks. It was the only building society to feature in the top ten most trusted banks and building societies, making its position of first place even more impressive. He added that consumers these days are often more interested in customer service levels and reliability than they are in the choice of products or interest rates available.
The poll also showed how quickly trust in banks and building societies can fall, after Northern Rock – which had been the fifth largest mortgage lender in the nation – managed to get only 0.5% of the vote as the most trusted bank.
