Debt charities prepare themselves for debt related calls
January 6, 2008
With Christmas well and truly out of the way for yet another year many debt charities and consumer charities such as the Citizen’s Advice Bureau are now gearing themselves up to cope with the massive flood of debt related queries and calls expected from consumers that have spent far more than they could afford and are now left to face the consequences. As always many of us turned to credit to fund our Christmas spending this year, but now is the time when those credit card bills start winging their way to us.
Every year following Christmas debt charities and the CAB find themselves flooded with calls from worried consumers who have suddenly realised just how much they have spent and just how much debt they have managed to get themselves into, and this year is expected to be no different. The debt hangover that consumers are left with following the Christmas period always causes problems, and there is a sharp increase in debt related enquiries just after the festive season.
Many people call for advice because their have fallen behind on debt repayments as a result of spending at Christmas, and others call with regards to difficulties with debts that they have run up in the form of credit cards, store cards, and loans. Officials from the CAB have pointed out that it is all too easy to get carried away with spending during the festive seasons, particularly with retailers pushing credit such as store cards.
Officials from the CAB have also stated that it is important to be organised and sensible when it comes to the festive season, and although this Christmas may be just about over it is important to remember that it will all happen again in twelve months time and that consumers should prepare themselves in plenty of time.
