Sky broadband breaks through one million barrier

According to a recent report media giant Sky has managed to break through the one million barrier with its broadband service, making it the fastest growing broadband provider in terms of reaching this sort of figure with its broadband service.

Sky launched its broadband service just fourteen months ago, and since this time has managed to amass over one million customers, placing the company amongst the most popular and competitive broadband providers in the UK.

The broadband service offered by Sky is only available to those that subscribe to the television service with the media giant. Around 70% of the company’s existing television subscribers have joined up to the broadband service, and around 30% are completely new customers that have signed up for both television and broadband with the company. Although Sky does offer a free broadband base service to customers, around 70% of its broadband customers are signed up to a monthly subscription deal known as Sky Broadband Max, which costs £10 per month.

The Chief Executive of Sky stated: “Sky entered the broadband marketplace because we saw an opportunity to
challenge the established players and give customers something better. Our aim is to meet the hunger for better quality, better service and better value, so to be the choice of one million customers after just 14 months is a real achievement.”

Over recent months many customers have been leaving Virgin, following loss of channels, the introduction of a premium rate help line number of those experiencing problems with broadband, and falling service levels. It is thought that much of Sky’s success could be down to the mass exodus of customers from Virgin.
