My Budget Day launched by AXA

One of the nation’s well known insurance companies AXA is urging employers around the UK to help employees to sort out their money issues by allowing them a small amount of time each month.

The insurance company claims that just one hour per month for each employee could provide valuable time for the staff member to sort out money issues, and could help to reduce stress levels, potentially saving the company a fortune each year, which would otherwise be lost as a result of stress related sickness.

AXA is launching ‘My Budget Day’ in November, and plans to give its thousands of employees one hour off each month in order to look at their finances.

One AXA official stated: “Money is one of the major causes of stress for adults and as such it is a major cause of employee absenteeism. Employees are already costing their employers some 1.08 billion pounds every week by wasting time on non-work related activities including gossiping, texting, logging onto social networking sites and emailing friends and family — that’s 40 minutes a day. If businesses are prepared to let their employees spend over three hours a month wasting their time on text messages, then asking them to dedicate just one of those hours to helping their employees alleviate their money worries doesn’t seem like a lot to ask.”

Money is one of the most common causes of stress, and AXA officials state that this one hour per month could help to reduce stress levels and increase morale, thus benefiting both the employees and the company in the long run. A number of agencies are backing the campaign by AXA. This includes the country’s largest union, Unite, and the Confederation of British Industry.
