HBOS faced with threat

The fourth largest bank in the UK. HBOS, is being threatened with a winding up order following failure to repay banks charges to some customers.

The action may be taken by a claims management company, which claims that the bank has ignored a number of orders that have been made by Cardiff County Court. According to the company a total of £45,643 is owed to ten customers by the HBOS. However, the bank has branded the claims are without merit.

Officials from the bank have stated that their legal team are looking at the claims made by the company, Robert Holbrook, with one official stating: “We have received the letter and our legal team are currently reviewing it. We have not ignored the claims and we will be telling Robertson Holbrook that very shortly.”

Officials also state that money has already been paid into the accounts of claimants, and there it is not aware of any outstanding judgements.

The ten claims in question went to court in August, and because no officials from the bank turned up to defend HBOS the judge ruled in favour of the claimants. However, the claims have not been paid according to Robert Holbrook.

A spokesman from the company stated: “We will serve the papers on them today or tomorrow. We have to get them up to the head office in Halifax.”

The official also stated that the bank thought itself above the law. An expert from a consumers group agreed, adding: “The pattern of the bank’s behaviour is completely in line with our experience. They have been obstructive and arrogant, both of the customer and the legal system.”
