Credit card that offers fuel rebates
October 29, 2007
A rewards based credit card has been launched that offers fuel rebates to customers, enabling cardholders to spend on their card and enjoy getting rebates on the cost of diesel and petrol.
The card has been launched by Shell in conjunction with CitiBank and is a MasterCard. The card should prove useful to those that drive a lot, enabling them to save some money on the rising cost of fuel whilst enjoying the ease and convenience of spending on a credit card.
Cardholders will be able to benefit from a sixty day introductory offer, where they can get a rebate of 6% on fuel from any Shell forecourt. In addition to this customers will be able to enjoy a rebate of 2% on other purchases that are made on the card. However, rebates that are accrued on the card can only be used on fuel purchases made at Shell stations. These rebate levels are only available for the first sixty days, and then the rebates levels drop to 3% on purchases from Shell stations, and 1% on other purchases.
One industry professional said that the card is well suited to those that pay off their balance in full each month, stating: “The new scheme should appeal to those looking to get something back from their card provider. With a more than fair conversion rate based on your spending, it should reap a healthy reward for many users. But, as with any reward card, they only make real financial sense for users who don’t carry over a balance to the next month. An incentive can soon be wiped out if you are paying over the odds in interest. Make sure the total deal works for you.”
