Impressive growth for BT Broadband
September 27, 2007
Communications giant BT Retail has recently announced that it has become the first broadband provider in the UK to smash through the four million customer barrier, enabling the company to hang on to its top spot as broadband provider in the UK beating the likes of Virgin Media and other popular broadband providers.
BT was recently voted the best broadband provider in a customer poll, and this seems to be reflected in the number of customers that it has acquired. The company took over Plusnet in 2006, which added another 200,000 to its customer base.
One official from BT Retail stated: “Four million customers is a great achievement in such a short time. Broadband has proved to be one of the most popular new services ever seen. It is already delivering next generation television, inclusive free phone calls in High Definition sound and great value mobile calls. Broadband can provide so many more services than just internet surfing and it has become central to many people’s lives and businesses. Customers want to take advantage of the potential of broadband and need a high quality, reliable service.”
He also added that although there were complaints over various issues such as broadband throttling and other speed affecting issues the company was committed to being transparent and clear about such issues.
He stated: “As an industry we need to make it clearer what we mean by these terms, so that our customers know exactly what we mean by ‘up to 8mb’. We will never be the cheapest broadband provider but we offer a good variety of services and add-ons our customers seem to like.”
The popularity of broadband has seen competition increase greatly over recent years, with many broadband providers offering freebies and incentives to entice customers, ranging from free upgrades to free laptops.
