Communications giant British Telecom has overtaken other leading broadband providers to become the leading provider of broadband services in the UK.

The number of people in the UK switching over the broadband has steadily risen over recent years, and the huge popularity of broadband has seen a number of providers offering very low prices, great deals on bundle packages, and high speed Internet at a fraction of the cost it was several years ago.

Until recently the leading suppliers of broadband in the UK was Telewest, which has now been taken over by Virgin Media. However, Virgin has experienced many problems over recent months, after customers lost a number of popular channels as a result of a financial row between Sky and Virgin. This saw many Virgin Media customers switch to alternative providers, and it seems that British Telecom have done very well from the mass exodus from Virgin.

British Telecom has now soared past Virgin to become the leading provider of Broadband in the UK, with many customers enjoying high speed Internet from the company. As a result of its prime position in the market annual profits have increased by fifteen percent according to British Telecom officials.

The communications giant last held the leading position in the broadband sector in the UK a year ago, and has finally regained the prime spot, possibly as a result of the row between Virgin and Sky.

British Telecom now enjoys an impressive customer base of over three and a half million customers, and holds a quarter of the total broadband market in the UK.

Virgin, on the hand, continues to lose customers, who have complained about poor value for money due to loss of television channels and also over poor customer service levels, which have left many customers feeling under-valued and frustrated.
