According to recent figures the over 55s in the UK are making the most of low cost broadband deals, enjoying fixed prices and unlimited access.

Also known as silver surfers, this is the age group that tends to make the most of the internet, because many consumers in this age group are retired and have the time to spend more time on the Internet. According to recent reports the Internet continues to enjoy increasing popularity amongst this age group, and in fact the over 55s are set to become the largest group online within the next couple of years.

Credit Card OnlinePeople in this age group already account for twenty two percent of website visits, and the number of over 55s utilizing broadband and the Internet has been growing for the past two years. Leisure, news, and financial websites are proving most popular amongst people in this age group. And with the increasingly affordable broadband packages on offer from a choice of Internet Service providers, it looks as though the silver surfers intend to keep on making the most of fixed price, unlimited access Internet.

According to one broadband professional this age group loves the availability of unlimited broadband because of the price and the accessibility.

He stated: “Silver surfers show a particular fondness for Travel and News and Media websites, with these categories ranking higher among silver surfers. Last week, 27% of visits to Travel websites and 24% of visits to News and Media websites were from those aged 55+.”

Amongst the factors that seem to be contributing to the popularity of broadband amongst silver surfers are the fact that people are retiring a little earlier and have more time to surf the Internet once they reach 55, the increasingly lower prices available on broadband, and the quality of the websites online today.
